Mount Hood America the Beautiful Quarter

Obverse:

  • Features a portrait of George Washington with original details restored from the 1932 Washington Quarter. Inscriptions include “United States of America”, “Liberty”, “In God We Trust”, and the denomination “Quarter Dollar”.
  • Portrait designed by John Flanagan. The template of the obverse was previously used for the 50 State Quarters Program.

Reverse:

  • Depiction of Mount Hood with Mirror Lake in the foreground. The reverse inscriptions include “Mount Hood”, “Oregon”, “E Pluribus Unum”, and the date of issue “2010″.
  • Reverse designed and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill.

Coin Details:

  • The fifth release of the America the Beautiful Quarters series, also representing the final release of the year. The series will continue through at least 2021 with representations of a National Park or site in each state, US territory, and the District of Columbia.
  • The Philadelphia and Denver Mint facilities will produce coins for circulation and special satin finish versions for US Mint issued sets. The San Francisco Mint will produce proof and silver proof versions for inclusion in US Mint annual coin sets.\
  • The standard quarters will have a composition which consists of outer layers of 75% copper and 25% nickel bonded to an inner core of pure copper. The silver proof quarters have a composition of 90% silver and 10% copper.

Where to Find:

  • The Mount Hood America the Beautiful Quarters will be issued for circulation, with the tentative release date established for November 15, 2010.
  • The United States Mint will sell 100-coin bags and two roll sets of circulation strike coins on or around the same date.
  • Sales of annual the annual Proof Set, Silver Proof Set, Mint Set, and America the Beautiful Quarters Proof and Silver Proof Sets will begin at various dates during the year.

History:

  • The America the Beautiful Quarters Program was authorized under Public Law 110-456 America’s Beautiful National Parks Quarter Dollar Coin Act of 2008.
  • The selection of Mount Hood National Forest for Oregon’s coin was announced on September 9, 2009. At that time, the United States Mint revealed the full site register and order of release for the entire series.
  • The final design selection for the Mount Hood Quarter was unveiled by the United States Mint on March 24, 2010. The unveiling was part of a special ceremony highlighting the new circulating commemorative quarter series.
