Obverse:

  • Portrait of President Franklin Pierce. Inscriptions “14th President” and “1853-1857″ the years of his Presidential term.
  • Designed by Susan Gamble and engraved by Charles Vickers.

Reverse:

  • Image of the Statue of Liberty.
  • Designed and engraved by Don Everhart.

Coin Details:

  • Struck for circulation at the Philadelphia and Denver Mints, with collectible uncirculated versions (stain finish) also produced. Collectible proof version will be produced at the San Francisco Mint.
  • Tentative circulation release date of May 20, 2010.
  • Composed of a core of pure copper with an outer layer of 77% copper, 12% zinc, 7% manganese, and 4% nickel.

  • The Franklin Pierce Dollars will be issued for circulation.
  • The United States Mint will have 25-coin rolls available for sale to collectors.
  • The collectible uncirculated and proof versions will be issued in annual sets and other collectible sets produced by the United States Mint.

History:

  • Authorized by an Act of Congress Public Law 109-145, which was enacted on December 22, 2005.
  • The Presidential Dollar series began in 2007, issuing four different dollar coins per year and featuring former Presidents in the order served.
  • The designs for the 2010 Presidential Dollars were released by the US Mint on December 8, 2009.
