Obverse:

  • Portrait of First Lady Abigail Fillmore with inscriptions for the order of the Presidency and years of the term.
  • Designed and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill.

Reverse:

  • An image of Abigail Fillmore shelving books in the White House Library she established.
  • Designed by Susan Gamble and sculpted by Joseph Menna.

Coin Details:

  • The coins will contain one-half ounce of .9999 fine (24 karat) gold.
  • Proof and uncirculated versions of the Abigail Fillmore First Spouse Coin will be produced at the West Point Mint.
  • A maximum mintage of 15,000 coins has been set across both versions of the coin.

Where to Find:

  • Offered for sale to collectors by the United States Mint starting on March 18, 2010.
  • The coins were initially priced at $729 for the proof version and $716 for the uncirculated version. Prices are subject to change based on the average price of gold.

History:

  • Authorized under Public Law 109-145: Presidential $1 Coin Act of 2005.
  • The First Spouse Gold Coin series began in 2007 and has continued with four or five coins released each year.
  • Designs for the 2010 First Spouse Gold Coins were unveiled on December 21, 2009.
