2010 American Gold Eagle

Obverse:

  • Augustus Saint-Gauden’s design for the $20 Double Eagle Gold Coin minted from 1907 to 1933.
  • Liberty is pictured striding confidently forward carrying a torch and olive branch. Rays of sunshine emanate from behind with an image of the US Capitol visible.

Reverse:

  • A family of eagles is depicted, with the male carrying an olive branch to the female and hatchlings.
  • Designed by Miley Busiek.

Coin Details:

  • The 2010 Gold Eagles are struck with a composition 22 karat gold, consisting of 91.67% gold, 3% silver, and 5.33% copper. Each coin contains its stated weight in gold.
  • Coins have been available in one ounce, one-half ounce, one-quarter ounce, and one-tenth ounce sizes.
  • Traditionally, the coins have been issued both as bullion coins and collector coins. In the prior year, the collectible versions of the coin were canceled.

Where to Find:

  • The bullion version of the 2010 American Gold Eagle is distributed through the US Mint’s network of authorized purchasers. These bulk bullion dealers resell theĀ  coins to other dealers and the public as well as facilitate a two way market for the bullion coins.
  • The collectible proof and uncirculated versions of the Gold Eagle are sold by the United States Mint directly to the public.

History:

  • The American Gold Eagle has been issued as a bullion coin each year since 1986. The collectible proof versions of the coin have been issued each year between 1986 and 2008. The collectible uncirculated versions have been issued from 2006 to 2008.
  • The 2010 Gold Eagle bullion coins were first available to authorized purchasers on January 19, 2010.
  • The issuance of collectible proof or uncirculated versions of the coins will remain contingent upon the US Mint’s ability to meet full public demand for the bullion coins.
  • The 2011 Gold Eagle will be released on January 3, 2011.
