Obverse:

Coin Details:

  • The 2010 Gold Buffalo coins have a composition of 24 karat gold. When the coins were introduced in 2006, this was the first time the US Mint issued coins in .9999 fine gold.
  • Coins will be issued in one ounce size only during 2010.
  • Bullion coins for precious metals investors and proof coins for coin collectors will be produced by the United States Mint.

Where to Find:

  • The bullion version of the 2010 American Gold Buffalo is sold to the US Mint’s network of authorized purchasers, who buy the coins directly from the Mint and then resell them to other bullion dealers and the public.
  • The collectible proof version of the Gold Buffalo will be sold by the US Mint directly to the public.

History:

  • The American Gold Buffalo was introduced in 2006. Each year the coins have been issued as one ounce bullion coins and one ounce proof coins. During 2008 only, fractional proof coins, one ounce collectible uncirculated coins, and fractional collectible uncirculated coins were also issued.
  • The 2010 Gold Buffalo Bullion coin was first available for authorized purchasers on April 29, 2010.
  • The 2010 Gold Buffalo proof coin is expected to go on sale June 3, 2010.
